Elizabeth Day is a huge advocate of talking therapies and has a hugely successful podcast and book that celebrate things that haven’t gone right. In episode 5 of season 8, she talks with Julia Samuel about needing the connection of others in dark times and that even when you aren’t able to be with people physically, digital connection can still be a huge support.

Both fantastic women understand the importance of self-control through engaging with pain, and then having the capacity to move forward. Growth doesn’t take away the severity of the loss, people change their priorities and adapt their lives to the work with the pain.

They also discuss how we can be so self-critical that we suppress certain emotions as a way to control the way we are perceived. Especially those emotions that are seen in a negative light, such as being angry or admitting failure, but these are just as important to embrace and navigate - through this you realise that you are still good enough.
