A film about a worldwide community connected by suicide-loss

Scattering CJ is an intimate view into one family’s journey after losing their loved one CJ to suicide. The story is told by Hallie, CJ’s mother, who in a moment of desperate inspiration put out an open call on Facebook in search of a few travellers who could fulfil her son’s wishes to travel the world, by asking them to scatter some of his ashes in different beautiful locations across the world.

After this open call, over twenty thousand strangers liked the Facebook page, and over a thousand volunteers have since taken CJ’s ashes to over 100 countries. CJ’s family’s story has led to the creation of a worldwide community that has come together to show that social media can be used as a positive vehicle for empathy to connect others and create solidarity after such a negative life changing experience like losing a loved one to suicide. ‘Scattering CJ’ emphasises the power and importance of community, and the impact of connecting with people with a shared loss when bereaved by suicide, as do we at Suicide&Co.

To watch Scattering CJ you can rent the film for £5.24, or attend a screening. You can watch the trailer below.
