A podcast on a personal exploration of loss and grief

The All There Is podcast is hosted by Anderson Cooper, an American broadcast journalist and political commentator at CNN, who discusses loss and grief and takes us on his own deeply personal journey through his experiences throughout each episode. He also features guests in some episodes who talk openly about their bereavements. Anderson lost his brother to suicide in 1988 and he began this podcast when he was packing up his late mother’s apartment and found keepsakes and journals and also things left behind by his brother and father. In every episode Anderson opens up moving and emotional conversations about grief, discussing what people leave behind and how we can live on with “loss, with laughter and with love.”

In the episode ‘Sadness Isn’t An Enemy,’ Anderson opens up about the loss of his brother to suicide. Anderson reflects on his brother’s life and their childhood growing up together. He expresses his emotions surrounding the pain that comes with losing someone to suicide, such as the frustration he felt when looking back and supporting his mother, as well as himself, after the loss. Anderson is joined later on by Dr. BJ Miller, a physician, who lost his sister to suicide. He discusses the importance of open conversations and talking about what happened to his sister. He aims to remove the stigma surrounding suicide and discusses new coping mechanisms that helped him in his grief journey. Dr Miller talks about how working with others and seeing them move through their grief and talking about it, taught him how important it is to open up.

If you have lost a sibling to suicide or if you want to listen to other’s stories and learn more about how they have dealt with their losses, this could be a good podcast for you. You can listen to the podcast episode here.
