Podcast Episode: Poorna Bell on the Challenge of Feeling Worthy of Love
In 2015, journalist, author and speaker Poorna Bell tragically lost her husband Rob to suicide. Since then she has contributed extensively to the field of mental health awareness, writing two books: "Chase the Rainbow: One Man's Journey to Mental Health and the Woman Who Loved Him" and "In Search of Silence: A Memoir of Finding Life After Loss", as well as a number of essays on the subject of suicide-related grief.
In this interview with Julia Samuel, a renowned grief psychotherapist, author and public speaker, Bell opens up on the struggle of feeling worthy of love and connection after losing her husband to suicide. Sharing her story with vulnerability, honesty and bravery, she discusses her personal experience of learning to find self-acceptance and how this has influenced her perception of worthiness, as well as her journey of finding strength through powerlifting and jiu-jitsu.
Julia Samuel's Therapy Works podcast is full of therapeutic conversations with both known and unknown voices as they discuss some of life's biggest challenges. Packed with transformative insights from Julia's work as a therapist, these conversations cover life's big topics and challenges with heart, soul and (perhaps most importantly) a good dose of humour. At the end of each episode, Julia reflects on her session with her two daughters, Sophie - an adult psychotherapist, and Emily - a child psychotherapist, offering a window into alternative perspectives as well as a wonderful insight into the minds of three of the UK's leading psychotherapists.
