After Shaun: a suicide awareness film

After Shaun is a heart-breaking, honest, and incredibly important independent mental health documentary that explores the devastating realities of suicide and the repercussions for the loved ones left behind. The concept for the film originates from the Director Craig’s personal experience of suicide bereavement when he sadly lost his brother Shaun in 2018. After this, Craig found himself to be part of a new community. While no one wants to be part of this community of those touched by suicide, it is a community of support that Craig, and many others, now cannot live without. Therefore the concept for After Shaun shifted, and this is now the story of Jo & Jared, Mandy & Kerry, John & Alex and sadly many more as rates of suicide, and in turn suicide bereavement, sadly increases.

At Suicide&Co we advocate the importance of shared experience and how finding those with a similar experience can make you feel less alone. The series of interviews with those bereaved by suicide in this film, along with expert testimony from Mental Health professionals, shows a truthful insight into the reality of life after suicide loss. After Shaun explores various themes from childhood upbringing, explaining the suicide of a parent to a child, and the differences between general grief and suicide-related grief. We would highly recommend watching this powerful film if you have lost a loved one to suicide as it aims to provide a sense of comfort to our community.

After Shaun is available to stream online but you can also watch below.
