Three Siblings- A podcast on surviving loss and finding hope

The Three Siblings podcast is hosted by Michele, Tina and Sunny who lost their mother to suicide and have created this podcast to help others navigate their own loss and inspire and provide comfort to those who have gone through the same thing. They talk about a variety of things in each episode, such as their journey, mental health and how they dealt with losing both of their parents.

In the episode ‘Losing Our Parents- The Story,’ the siblings open up about the loss of their parents and provide an emotional and honest conversation surrounding the challenges of mental health struggles and grief. They open up about how important mental health care is and how no one really told them about it as children, so they strongly believe in the significance of support systems and how there should be no limitations in getting support. The siblings delve into different coping mechanisms that helped them, including writing letters to their parents after their passing expressing their gratitude and how this has helped them with their healing. In this episode, the siblings also speak about the relationship that the three of them have and how they provided each other with that needed support system which was vital in their grief as they understood each other and were there for one another during such a tough time.

Season 2 of the podcast is focused more on the guests who join them and it provides a more conversational style format in which each episode covers a different mental health topic. In this episode, the siblings are joined by Will Anthony and they talk about depression and suicide within the LGBTQ+ community. Will shares his story and opens up about his experience of coming out in a conservative Christian family. He too discusses the impact of support and how professional support really helped him and his mental health and he encourages people who are struggling with their identity to reach out, even though it can be hard. The episode talks about key statistics that the Trevor Project, a crisis support service in the USA, found such as, LGBTQ+ youth being 4 times more likely to attempt suicide than their peers. Will emphasises the importance of finding a community in which you feel safe and supported, whether that be online or in person, as having people around you who understand can really aid those who are struggling.

This podcast provides open and vulnerable conversations around mental health and grief and allows listeners to hear stories of others who have experienced a similar loss, whilst giving tips and information that can help.
